Malcolm X Essays (617 words) - African-American Muslims,

Malcolm X I read an excerpt from the book, The Autobiography of Malcolm X, by Malcolm X and Alex Haley. In this part of the book Malcolm discusses his quest for knowledge. He starts off by telling us about how he wrote his Harlem, hustler friends and told them all about Allah and Mr. Elijah Muhammad, the two main figures in the Islam religion. He never got a single reply and figured it was because the average hustler and criminal couldnt read. He also thought that maybe they thought he had gone crazy, because after all he was writing them about the devil; the white devil. Maybe his letters never even got there. White men, men who might have just thrown the letters out, censored all of his mail. However, no one ever said anything to him about them or ever treated him differently because of it. As Malcolm X be3gan to write more letters to a wide variety of people he became frustrated with the fact that he could not communicate with them as he wanted to. It was because of these letters that I happened to stumble upon starting to acquire some kind of homemade education. He hated it because he had been the most articulate hustler on the streets of Harlem, and could get anyones attention with his words. He was admired for the eloquent words he spoke and was not used to being ignored. For now even the simplest English was hard for him to write. His quest for an education had begun, but it would be a long one. He decries how it all really began while he was being held at the Charlestown Prison. Bimbi, a fellow prisoner, was very intelligent and Malcolm envied his gift. Bimbi encouraged him to read and Malcolm would try but would end up quitting because he would skip the words he didnt know and keep reading. The problem with this was that he could never fully understand what he was reading and would put the book down. So he decided that he needed to learn how to read and write properly. He decided that the best way to go about it would be to get a hold of a copy of a dictionary and study it. He requested a dictionary, some pencils and some pads of paper. When he first got the book he spent a while just looking through it wondering where to start. He decided that the best place to start would be with the As. So he just started copying. He copied every word and punctuation mark on the first page. It took him the entire day, and when he finished he read aloud what he had written over and over again. The next day he woke up thinking about the words that he had written and to his surprise he even remembered what some of them meant. So he went back over the list again until he knew what every word meant. He was so fascinated that he copied the next page and had the same experience when he woke up the next morning and reviewed them. He eventually copied the entire dictionary while he was in prison. As his word-base broadened he was able to pick up a book and read it all the way through. Being able to do his made him feel important and smart. He became so good at reading that he spent all of his free time reading, and because of this his time in jail went by quickly. In fact, up to then, I never had been so truly free in my life. An Investigation in the Aged Care Industry in Australia

The major concerns those are expressed by the stakeholders regarding the aged care quality in Australia. The organization is responsible for realizing whether or not a residential aged care facility funded by the government of Australia. The significance of this research is to investigate the Australian Aged Care Accreditation Standards. Additionally, these standards have been observed to contribute to the enhancing care after theory emergence (Baldwin and Chenoweth 2015). Moreover, these standards are just deemed to present minimum standards of quality and they do not totally centre on clinical results. Transformation in the demographics along with observing boost in aging population in Australia has necessitated implementation of aged care services and such growth is deemed to sustain in future (Australia 2015). There are certain aspects namely sustainability, funding associated with future investments along with provisions of upcoming growth based on the industry. The aged care se rvice providers within Australia are accountable for offering services associated with aged care in Australia that encompass residential care services along with home and community care services (McLachlan 2013). The research problem has revealed that workforce of the aged care industry is not distributed in an even manner. Moreover, a great number of working populations is associated with residential aged care industry as it is vital that residential aged care must have great work force and certain home care is required to be increased for it is extremely less. Home care industries within the sub-continent areas are gradually transforming because of great number of aged care individuals (Farag et al. 2016). Within the over populated nations it is deemed vital to for offering extensive care for the increasing population. In comparison to the aged care sector within Australia the industry has not gradually enhanced within the sub-continental nations. Conversely, the lifecycle as well as the culture of people within Australia is extremely distinct from the sub-continent areas as it is not likely to have identical infrastructure in all the regions (Drew, Kortt and Dollery 2014). Considering the same research problem, the recent research will investigate significant relationship between capita growth in the sub-continents and Aged care expenditure in Australia. The research question that is to be answered through the current study is: The research hypotheses those are to be tested in investigating the Aged Care Industry in Australia with the growth of per capital income are mentioned under: Based on the research question, the current exploration has considered selecting most appropriate research design that has helped in determining the ways through which research hypothesis was proved (Warburton and Mahoney 2016). This is because; the current research has considered carrying out detailed description of aspects that explained significant relationship between capita growth in the sub-continents and Aged care expenditure in Australia. The researcher in the current study has considered using explanatory research design in consideration to which they have prepared several recommendations to deal with the research problem after the accomplishment of the study (Hughes, Bigby and Tilbury 2016). This is the main reason for which descriptive research design is followed by the researcher in accomplishing the overall research. Data is considered as vital requirement for making sure of proper accomplishment of current research within which gathering relevant data is based on the research characteristics and desired study results. In the current research on investigation regarding growth in expenditure on aged care services of Australia and capita income of sub continental countries are seven sub-continents, primary data was gathered (Tapper and Phillimore 2014). Primary data was gathered from a small sample in the current research for the time constraint and complexity associated with gathering primary data from the selected seven sub-continents of Australia. Both quantitative as well as qualitative data was gathered in this study (Britt et al. 2013). Quantitative data collection was deemed highly suitable in this research as quantitative information can be evaluated easily for collecting desired results and findings from the research. Quantitative data collection also provides important information regardi ng inclination concerning human perception that is relied on particular information on study. Sampling can be deemed as a process by means of which target survey participants for the recent study has been selected from a huge population. Appropriate process of sampling supports the researcher in choosing very appropriate source for primary data collection for extracting vital information totally associated with attaining the purpose of the current research (Davidson 2015). Simple random sampling technique was employed in this research to select most appraise data and sample for data analysis. This sampling technique was used as it has facilitated equal chances for the sample to be selected for the current research. Moreover, simple random sampling is also considered suitable in case of quantitative data collection that is followed in this study for gathering desired sample size from huge sample base (Burkett et al. 2016). The selected sample for investigating relationship between growth in expenditure on aged care services of Australia and capita income of sub continental cou ntries are seven sub-continents. The data that was gathered was analyzed with the help of employing several analytical processes associated with investigation of primary data. In consideration to same, it was gathered that most suitable selection of data analysis techniques is vital that can help in attaining most dependable and transparent research results (Meagher, Szebehely and Mears 2016). In addition, it also sustains in maintaining the dependability and transparency of the collected research based information. Adequate representation of quantitative data is carried out with the support of signifying them in tables and graphs that were in turn simplified the data evaluation process in accordance with gathered data. MS excel tools were also used effectively in conducting correlation analysis based on the collected primary data (Hungerford et al. 2016). Such analysis has also facilitated in proving the set research hypothesis in investigating significant relationship between capita growth in the sub-continents an d Aged care expenditure in Australia. While conducting research on the current topic the researcher had made sure that suitable ethical code of conduct was followed in every step of research and the process of data collection (Wade, Soar and Gray 2014). Primary data has been gathered from dependable sources that have made sure the researcher regarding the results collected from the study. The researcher ensured regarding the maintaining the reliability and trustworthiness of results gathered from the current exploration. Moreover, the researcher also attempted to gather reliable data from the investigation in consideration to the most accurate and up-to-date primary sources for exploration the impact of expenditure on aged care on the per capita growth of Australian sub continents (Drew, Walk and West 2016). Though primary data collection has helped in gathering relevant research results, still it was gathered that this type of research has several disadvantages that includes involvement of high cost and chances of inaccurate feedbacks in conducting primary research (Clark, Parker and Davey 2014). Moreover, small sample size selected in primary research might not be extremely reliable as a huge population consideration can be highly "time consuming" as collection of such data is not possible n lesser time (Cooke and Bartram 2015). Neither imitation of primary data considers that inaccurate feedbacks might not be gathered from the survey participants nor there high chances that such feedback might no be very reliable. 1.In what age group do you currently fall under? Table 3.1: depicting the age group of the respondents Figure 3.1: Depicting the age group of the respondents Maximum of the respondents age mainly lie under 26 to 35 years, which helps in obtaining viable information for the research. Moreover, around 74% of the respondents mainly depict the overall responses, which could be used in improving viability of the research. With the help of mean, median and mode, viability of the respondent’s age is detected. Furthermore, SD of the respondents is below 1, which depicts that responses are viable. Table 3.2: Depicting the demographic of the respondents Figure 3.2: Depicting demographic of the respondents With the help of mean, median and mode, demographic of the respondent’s is detected. With the help of mean, mode, and median, option 2 is mainly indicated as the most viable response used by the respondents. Thus, a relative increment of 6% to 10% could be identified. 4.How much did Aged care expenditure increased in precious years? Table 3.4: Depicting the increment in expenditure of aged care industry Figure 3.4: Depicting the increment in expenditure of aged care industry The mean, median, and mode mainly state that respondents choose both option 2 and 3. In addition, it is estimated that around 6% to 15% increment in expenditure of aged care industry could be identified. The low SD mainly states that there is relatively no risk regarding responses used in the research.   Table 3.5: Depicting the correlation in per capita income and With the help of table 3.5 overall correlations between increment in expenditure and per capita income is depicted. Moreover, a positive correlation mainly states that an increment in expenditure also increases income per capita in sub continental countries. The overall data analysis chapter mainly helps in depicting the relevant correlation between the per capita income of sub continental companies and Australian aged care expenses. Moreover, the researcher with the relevant outcome has mainly depicted the relationship between per capita incomes generated by subcontinent countries. Furthermore, the adequate impact of expenses conducted by Australian movement could be identified, which in turn help in improving per capita income of sub centennial countries. The significance of this research was to investigate the Australian Aged Care Accreditation Standards. Moreover, these standards have been observed to contribute to the enhancing care after theory emergence. The research problem has revealed that workforce of the aged care industry is not distributed in an even manner. Moreover, a great number of working populations is associated with residential aged care industry as it is vital that residential aged care must have great work force and certain home care is required to be increased for it is extremely less. The current research gathered the relevant outcome that has mainly depicted the relationship between per capita incomes generated by subcontinent countries. Furthermore, the adequate impact of expenses conducted by Australian movement could be identified, which in turn help in improving per capita income of sub centennial countries. The research revealed that the relevant increment in the capita income of Sri lank, Bhutan, Maldive s, and Nepal has drastically improved, while Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh seen slow improvement. This derivation mainly helps in depicting the impact of expenditure conducted by Australian government on aged population. Data analysis revealed maximum number of equipments and workforce in Aged care centers are mainly provided from sub-continental countries, as it helps in reducing costs and improving overall service quality. Furthermore, overall increment in aged population expenses is mainly helpful for some of the sub continent countries as the overall income is mainly generated from expenses conducted by the Australian government. Furthermore, from the correlation calculation Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal is mainly identified of having the most correlation between expenses and per capita income. Furthermore, the relevancy in expenses could be identified, which might be helpful in generating higher income. Furthermore, high correlation in expenses and per capita income mainly states the positive implications, which is helpful for sub continent countries to generate higher. aihw.gov.au., 2017. Accomplishing Life Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Accomplishing Life - Essay Example Most of the time all we had was each other and that is why I surprised my family when I told them that I was going to join the army. My brothers and I did not have any money to go to college when we graduated, plus I didn’t want to go to college right away. I graduated in 2005 and a year later I joined the United States Army. At the time I didn’t feel like I had accomplished anything so far even though i did ok in school. I played sports and was part of school activities but still had certain goals I wanted to reach and I knew I had to start somewhere. I wanted to get away from home and see what was out in the real world for me. Army was the way to go, and then maybe I could start accomplishing my life goals. The journey for my army accomplishment started in June 2006 when i was sent off to Fort Jackson, SC for basic training. It was 9 weeks of physical and mental training and a lot of people telling you what to do all the time. There were four platoons that consisted of 50-60 people. The four platoons made one company. I was in fourth platoon, which was one of the greatest platoons you wanted to be in. I started meeting a lot of great people and did a lot of team building. We ran miles and miles; ruck marched through woods and sand, which was hard when you carried 30lbs on your back- holding a weapon. We learned about many different weapons and how to shoot them.

International finance - Coursework Example (2 marks) False, only silver will be able to circulate because the equilibrium ratio will be raised by the increase in supply of silver and everyone would hoard gold and spend silver since there is no free coinage (Ghosh & Clark, 98). Question 2: The graph below is the exchange rate of Japanese Yen to US dollar ( ¥/$) between August to November 2010. On 15th Sept, Yen moved from 83 to 85.7 yen per dollar due to the Japanese authorities’ intervention in the foreign exchange markets to weaken the value of the yen against the dollar, a day after the yen hit a 15-year high against the dollar. Japanese central bank intervened by setting aside or creating a substantial amount of Yen currency (printing money) which is used in buying several billions of  US dollars. This is then invested in in the US securities thereby increasing the supply of Yen in the market. This then weakened the value of the Yen against the dollar thereby improving exports thus lifting the country out of a deflationary period. The weakening Yen against Us dollars had to be strengthened and to be stabilized as well so as to increase market confidence. The intervention was also carried out to correct the rates of exchange so as to avoid overshooting in any given direction. The government wanted to weaken the value of the Yen against the dollar so as to improve their exports so as to lift the country out of a deflationary period. Yes, it weakened the Yen against the dollar. The exchange rate of Yen reduced considerably thereby favouring the country’s exports. The intervention was able to correct the rate of exchange thereby avoiding overshooting of either direction. Additionally, Japan was able to improve their exports hence lifting the country out of a deflationary period (HüFner, 128). Show how you can make a triangular arbitrage profit by

A Book Review on ‘A Man on the Moon’ Essay Example for Free

A Book Review on ‘A Man on the Moon’ Essay Not all great authors can come up great educational book such as Andrew Chaikin’s ‘A Man on the Moon: The Voyages of the Apollo Astronauts’. Moreover, not all true-to-life-stories writers are lucky to deliver such factual account having first-hand information gained through interviews. As Chaikin have provided necessary details such as scientific technicalities, knowledge and feelings involved, running down from the role of politics, biographies, competitions, emotions, failures, accomplishments, trials, motives, sacrifices, faults, private thoughts and comments, up to the extent of constructing the blueprint, plans and programs of planetary explorations, his readers might not just be well-informed about it but completely aware of the ins and outs of manned space flight and landing on the moon. See more:Â  The Story of an Hour Literary Analysis Essay In this book, what the author wants is to expose most of the elements of the Apollo missions that only few people could know. He makes it possible as he did a thorough investigation of his craft. Doing a series of in-depth interviews to almost hundred percent of the people behind the Apollo missions especially the twenty four moon voyagers is never easy. Likewise, pretending that the time doing the interview is dramatically inflict as it is makes his audience feel very closely enough to the scenario if not apprehensively feel updated. Hence, to be hooked in this astonishing book is nothing but normal. The main argument of the author is set to make available for everyone his own discovery of the profound history behind the historical explorations and discoveries from the initial first manned flight of the Apollo 8 around the moon’s vicinity in 1961 to the successful first landing on the moon of the Apollo 11 in 1972 and even beyond that as he reveals reflections of the sixth landing on the moon of the Apollo 17, which is also the last landing as of today. This thesis is well-supported by first-hand interviews, academic reviews, scientific approach, and the legal and technical aspects which played very important roles in the Apollo missions’ golden age and its declination. Writing his work in a very comprehensible approach for easy reading and understanding of every historical detail paints the colorful adventures and voyages of every man and events behind the mission. Thus, it could also serve as a very rich reference for any research about space technology. Having been read ‘A Man on the Moon’ inspires me not to stop believing of my every potential. As Chaikin discloses man’s unlimited discoveries once ignite and properly supported of external factors, enlightens young minds to seek for the infinity. However, knowing that the final landing, as written on the book, happened decades ago can trigger the notion of stopping one’s eagerness to dream and explore. Personally, I could say that the book is not just a thought-provoking one but heart-stopping as well. With those vivid illustrations of the interviewees that are intelligently interpreted and written by the author, it could make me feel as if I myself have competed for the moon’s flight seat or even touched moon’s face. Therefore, making me feel reviving my innermost interest to liberate my wildest dream of becoming an astronaut is the best proof that this book is truly an amazing masterpiece. Insanity in The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe Essay -- The Tell-T

Edgar Allen Poe's "The Tell Tale Heart" is a short story about how a murderer's conscience overtakes him and whether the narrator is insane or if he suffers from over acuteness of the senses. Poe suggests the narrator is insane by the narrator's claims of sanity, the narrator's actions bring out the narrative irony of the story, and the narrator is insane according to the definition of insanity as it applies to "The Tell Tale Heart". First, Poe suggests the narrator is insane by his assertions of sanity. For example, the narrator declares because he planned the murder so expertly he could not be insane. He says, "Now this is the point. You fancy me mad. Madmen know nothing. But you should have seen how wisely I proceeded-with what caution-with what foresight-with what dissimulation I went to work!" In addition, every night at midnight the narrator slowly went into the room of the old man. He claims this was done so wisely that he could not be insane. The narrator thinks that if a murder is carefully planned then the murderer is not insane. Also, the narrator claims he suffers from over acuteness of the senses. Regarding the sound of the old man's beating heart, the narrator says, "And now have I not told you that what you mistake for madness is but over-acuteness of the senses? --now, I say, there came to my ears a low dull, quick sound, such as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton". The narrator claims he is n ot imagining the sound but he is hearing it because his senses are so sharp. The narrator believes he is justified in killing the old man because the man has an Evil Eye. The narrator claims the old man's eye made his blood run cold and the eye looked as if it belonged to a vulture. Poe shows the narrator is insane... ...arly shows that the narrator is insane because he heard noises, which could not possibly have occurred. As the police officers were sitting and talking in the old man's chamber, the narrator becomes paranoid that the officers suspect him of murder. The narrator says, "I could bear those hypocritical smiles no longer! I felt that I must scream or die". The narrator is deluded in thinking the officers knew of his crime because his insanity makes him paranoid. In conclusion, Poe shows the insanity of the narrator through the claims of the narrator as to why he is not insane, the actions of the narrator bring out the narrative irony of the story, and the character of the narrator fits the definition of insanity as it applies to "The Tell Tale Heart". The "Tell Tale Heart" is a story about how insanity can overtake someone's mind and cause one to behave irrationally.

Film Study Prince Essay

(1)According to Prince, what are the three core questions that â€Å"frame the essential attributes of cinema† and why are they important to consider in film studies? (6 points) 1) How do movies express meaning? It is important to consider in film studies because the basic tools of filmmaking help organize design of a film, and the filmmakers are able to express a range of meanings. 2) How do viewers understand film? It is important to consider in film studies because viewers understand film by applying different aspects of their real-life visual, personal, and social experience as well as their knowledge of motion picture conventions and style. Viewers respond to films when watching movies. 3) How does cinema operate as an art and business on a global scale? It is important to consider in film studies because commercial filmmaking operates as part of a global communications industry, which exerts considerable influence on film content and style. At the same time, filmmakers around the world represent their countries, heritages, and styles. Moreover, filmmakers today are greatly affected by the economic and commercial problems. These issues including art and business influence filmmaking greatly. (2)To Prince, what is the difference between film structure and film content? (4 points) Film structure refers to the audiovisual design of a film and some tools and techniques used to create that design. However, film content refers to the description of story, characters and theme of the film. (3)Discuss three factors that make the director the chief artistic authority in the filmmaking process? (6 points) 1) Preproduction is one of the factors because it involves the planning and preparation period such as writing of a script, hiring of cast and crew, production design of sets, costumes, and locals. 2) Production is another factor which includes the work of filming the script and sound recording of the action. 3) Postproduction involves the editing of sound and image in the film, composition and recording of the music score, additional sound recording for effects and dialogue replacement, creation of digital special effects, and color timing to achieve proper color balance in the images. These factors (the production process) make the director the chief artistic authority in the filmmaking process because the director coordinates and organizes the artistic inputs of other members of the production team, who generally subordinate their artistic tastes or preferences to a directors stated wishes or vision. (4)Discuss two reasons why Hunt thinks it’s important to study films. (4 points) According to Hunt, the key reasons to study film are the issues of power and empowerment. Studying film is empowering because the formation of cinema is about identity, such as our self-image, values, beliefs, and world views. When we realize the role media play in defining and shaping our identity, we can begin to more actively take charge of our own identity. (5)What are the three artistic modes of filmmaking and how are they different? (6 points) 1) Narrative fiction mode refers to an historical or cultural event that is familiar to many film-going spectators; however, the characters and the way they act are fictionalized. 2) Documentary mode represents â€Å"real people† participating in â€Å"real life† events; it illuminates the life situation and the situation may represent larger issues and ideas about life. 3) Experimental mode is the arrangement of artistic elements, edit and construct the story in unconventional ways in order to illuminate life experience. (6)Discuss the importance of the shot in the filmmaking process (you can draw from both Hunt and Prince for this answer). (4 points) A shot is important in the filmmaking process because it is the basic unit for constructing a film. A film is built on shot by shot basis like a book is constructed sentence by sentence. Films are composed of many shots that are joined together in the process of editing. In a completed film, a shot is the interval on screen between edit points, and it is important in the filmmaking process. (7)Explain how it is that human beings are able to see still images as moving. (5 points) Under the right conditions spectators will see apparent motion when no real movement has occurred. If a series of closely spaced light bulbs are illuminated in rapid sequence in a darkened room, a spectator will see a single light source moving across the room rather than a series of lights illuminated one after another. This phenomenon is called beta movement. When the intervals between a series of illuminated light are very small, the eye’s motion detectors encode this information as movement. The viewer sees a single travelling light or a galloping horse on screen.

Leadership Approach Essay

Various theoretical approaches have been conducted to determine the impact of leadership and the key attributes of effective leaders. The five research approach comprise of the trait approach, behavior approach, power-influence approach, situational approach, and integrative approach. Although each approach has its merits and issues, the focus of this paper will be the situational approach. Overview The situational leadership approach views leadership in relation to a specific context. The study suggests that for every situation a specific leadership style is appropriate. In situational leadership, the factors that affect the leadership style include the situation, the organization, the followers, the timing and the nature of work (Yukl, 2010). By assessing these factors, leaders make decisions on their leadership style. In addition, situational leadership has two subcategories. The first one reviews the similarity or differences of leadership within an organization. This study involves using comparison between situations and the differences or similarities between approaches. The second study evaluates the correlation between leadership traits, skills and attributes to leadership effectiveness (Yukl, 2010). Finally, the study by Paul Hersey and Kenneth Blanchard in 1969 provided a matrix of communication for use in this type of leadership. The matrix recommends the use of four influence competencies such as telling or directing, selling, delegating and participating. Each style is adapted to the follower’s maturity or competency. â€Å"The four styles suggest that leaders should put greater or less focus on the task in question and/or the relationship between the leader and the follower, depending on the development level of the follower† (Changing Minds, 2012). Strengths and Weaknesses The strength of the situational approach of research is that it provides a variety of study iterations, thus allowing for the researchers to control certain parts of the study. Moreover, the situation is observable and results are easy to understand. Thus the study provides flexibility and control in modifying various factors within the control situation. For instance, by manipulating a certain control situation, researchers can review the leaders’ reactions and methods to resolving the issues put forward. The weaknesses of using this approach are that it contains too many variables. Endless numbers of variables can be factored in to a situation and thus, can create confusion in the study. Moreover, the approach does not clearly distinguish between leadership and management and given a situation, managers can act as leaders and vice versa without further clarification. Examples of Situational Leadership Situational leadership exists in __________, a financial service firm, and the author’s current employer. Situational leaders use four influence competencies such as telling or directing, selling, delegating, and participating. Each style must be applied to the appropriate situation being affected and the audience or group being addressed (Changing Minds, 2012). The examples will be based on the author’s observations of her direct superior, the Senior Partner of the company, (â€Å"Eric†). As senior partner, Eric is in charge of the company’s strategic direction. Thus, he delegates authority to various skilled and competent individuals. In everyday business, Eric uses the delegating and participating style. He understands that the branch managers and senior staff are skilled to handle every day issues. However, in times of uncertainty and stress, for instance, the possible stock market decline, Eric shifts his style to more of a telling or directing style. This telling or directing style is typically used in lower competency and low trust group of followers. Even though Eric realizes that the senior staff members are well trained to handle stock market declines, Eric looks at the situation and modifies his behavior and communication style to a more directive leadership. Conclusion The situational approach in studying leadership provides an overview of the use different traits, skills and communication styles in order to fit into the situation. Although this approach has its merits and weaknesses, it is the most widely used leadership study. Regardless of the approach used in study or leadership style, the most important factor is the leader’s accountability for the outcome of the decisions made. Concept Of Therapeutic Relationships In Mental Health Social Work Essay Example

Concept Of Therapeutic Relationships In Mental Health Social Work Essay Example Concept Of Therapeutic Relationships In Mental Health Social Work Essay Concept Of Therapeutic Relationships In Mental Health Social Work Essay The remit of this essay is to research and discourse the construct of curative relationships in mental wellness and what is involved in constructing these relationships. The inquiry is in two parts, so in the first portion of the essay, the writer wishes to research the significance of a curative relationship and discourse what is needed from the nurse and service user to keep this. In the 2nd portion, the writer will take two cardinal elements that contribute to a curative relationship in mental wellness nursing and discourse the importance they have. The two cardinal elements that have been chosen is communicating, both verbal and non verbal, and the importance of these elements in a relationship between a nurse and a service user. To accomplish this end the writer will utilize assorted resources available, for illustration the cyberspace, literature from category and appropriate reading stuffs. Main Body Building relationships is cardinal to nursing work , ( Nursing Times ) and highly of import in mental wellness nursing. A curative relationship involves regard, empathy and genuineness ( Callaghan and Waldock 2006 ) . Both the nurse and service user should demo regard for each other and the nurse should esteem the beliefs of the service user, even if they do non hold with these. The relationship should be individual centred, leting the service user to be at the nucleus of their attention programs etc, their beliefs and wants must be respected at all times. Service users must be at the Centre of their attention and recovery. Choices and determinations should be made by them. If there are any alterations to be made to a attention bundle, the service user must be informed and have their say. In a curative relationship the nurse will back up the service user in all facets of their attention and recovery. With mention to the quotation mark in inquiry, did it at my degree and gait all the clip , ( Brown and Kandirkirira 2007 ) this is critical in recovery and for a curative relationship. The nurse must work aboard the service user and back up them in taking for the ends that the service user has made and non what the nurse expects them to be able to make. The service user should ever stay at the Centre of their recovery and to develop such a relationship, the nurse should portion their cognition of the unwellness, which gives the service user an apprehension of what they are sing and some control on the state of affairs and both will be able to take an active function in the direction of the unwellness, ( Owen 2004 ) .The nurse should be able to demo empathy, being able to set themselves in the service users place and conceive of how they would experience and how they would wish to be treated, accurate empathy is ever authorising, since it represents an apprehension and credence of the talker s feelings ( Millenson 1995 ) . This accomplishment shows the ser vice user that the nurse has taken on board what has been said and that they can set themselves in the persons state of affairs. Those involved in the curative relationship should ever demo genuineness and keep non judgmental attitudes towards each other. Genuineness is based on the ability of the practician to be unfastened with his patient It will assist to confirm the patient as the Centre of the intervention and advance the patients trust in the practician and his interventions, ( Owen 2004 ) . The nurse should desire to work aboard the service user and offer support when needed to accomplish and keep this relationship. The people have the right and the responsibility to take part separately and jointly in the planning and execution of their wellness attention, ( World Health Organisation 1978 ) . A curative relationship does non happen overnight, it takes clip and a great trade of trust is indispensable between the nurse and the service user. Trust is really of import for the relationship to develop and if this is achieved the service user will accept the nurses support and advice on interventions available and besides work aboard each other alternatively of the nurse proposing that they know best as they are the professional. patients themselves value curative relationships which offer regard, trust and attention and it seems that such relationships may in themselves prove to be mending in the broadest sense. ( Mitchell and Cormack 1998 ) . If trust is maintained throughout the development of the relationship the service user will get down to gain that the nurse does in fact attention about their state of affairs and does wish to back up them on their route to recovery offering support and advice when necessary. The trust gained from both people should assist each other t o get down experience at ease the more they meet with each other and the service user may easy get down to open up to the nurse and enable them to speak about how they are truly feeling, what may frighten them and accept their advice and support. It will besides demo the service user that they are at the Centre of their attention and that they will work at their ain gait and when they are ready to take that one measure further down their way to recovery, they will. A cardinal component that contributes to a curative relationship in mental wellness nursing is the usage of verbal communicating. One really of import facet of this is inquiring unfastened inquiries, which the service user is unable to answer with a simple yes or no reply. This will let the nurse to derive a deeper apprehension of how the service user truly feels ( Burnard 1992 ) . This besides shows the service user is at the Centre of their attention and possibly they will get down to speak openly and freely about their true feelings as this type of inquiries show the nurse does care for them and wants to back up them in the best possible manner, it allows the nurse to sympathize, if they can acquire a true history of the feelings the service user has. The empathy shown may promote the service user to speak openly more frequently as they know that they will non be judged for holding some of these feelings and ideas. Another of import facet of verbal communicating is reflecting and clear uping what has been said by the service user. Reflection requires the nurse to state back to the service user what they have said to guarantee they understand to the full. Clarifying is required by both the nurse and service user. The nurse may inquire a closed inquiry, which allows the service user to reply merely yes or no, or a individual reply to be definite, to guarantee they acquire the true significance of what the service user is stating and in bend the nurse can explicate their apprehension of the unwellness or state of affairs that the single finds themselves in and what support and services are available and how they can travel about puting these up, together, enabling the service user to do determinations after being given the pick to make so. When the nurse gives their positions to the service user, any specialist linguistic communication, for illustration slang, should be avoided as this may move as a barrier within the curative relationship as the nurse is non taking into history if the service user understands what is being said to them. This binds in with the nucleus elements of a curative relationship as the nurse will demo empathy, genuineness and trust will increase working at the degree and gait of the service user. The nurse must be cognizant of their tone of voice, ( Stickley and Freshwater 2006 ) when talking to the service user, to do certain they do nt come across as patronising or uncaring. This may make a challenge in keeping the relationship as the service user may experience belittled by the nurse and in bend may shut up and non talk about how they are genuinely experiencing therefore the relationship will non develop and there wo nt be any trust. Another component of verbal communicating is the nurse should non be speedy to job solve, ( Stickley and Freshwater 2006 ) . Leting the service user to believe of attacks of get the better ofing the jobs that may happen during their recovery procedure high spots that they are at the Centre of their attention and shows that they have the concluding determination in their attention and or intervention. If the nurse moves in rapidly to seek and assist the service user, it may come across as patronising and that they are seeking to take contro l of the state of affairs as they have non took the clip to inquire what the service user wants and may do a barrier between the nurse and the service user. The 2nd cardinal component that contributes to curative relationships in mental wellness is the usage of non verbal communicating. This component is highly of import in keeping a curative relationship and being cognizant of the accomplishment involved is critical. The most of import accomplishment is sitting in a mirrored place, non sitting face on in forepart of the patient but to the side and tilting somewhat in demoing they are ready and willing to listen ( Stickley and Freshwater 2006 ) , sitting behind a desk can move as a barrier and come across as authoritative ( Burnard 1992 ) and may do the service user to experience uneasy, discouraging them from opening up and experiencing unable to swear the nurse. The nurse should be sitting comfortably and in a manner that does non do the service user feel uncomfortable in any manner. The usage of oculus contact is paramount in keeping a curative relationship but cognizing when and how to utilize the accomplishment is the key. Too much oculus contact may do the state of affairs to escalate and both the nurse and service user may experience uncomfortable. Not plenty oculus contact may convey a deficiency of involvement in what the service user is seeking to state them and may do the curative relationship to come to an terminal and the service user may non demo what they are genuinely experiencing or believing at this clip. Another of import facet of non verbal communicating is listening, The function of the hearer therefore is a privileged one and one that can advance healing, ( Stickley and Freshwater 2006 ) . Listening is likely one of the greatest accomplishments a nurse can accomplish. Listening is, the nurse hearing what the service user is stating and understanding what is being said, non what the nurse thinks they are stating. effectivity mostly depends on the nurses ability to listen and observe cues for curative question, ( Stickley and Freshwater 2006 ) . Therefore once more shows the nurse has picked up on the item of the statement from the service user and can reflect back to the service user what has been said to clear up their apprehension and to reassure the service user that they are being listened to. This will assist the service user to construct trust in the nurse as they will hold a feeling of credence and that person is listening to them. Decision It can now be seen that there are many cardinal elements that contribute to a curative relationship and the list is eternal. A curative relationship requires a batch of clip and trust on both parts and the nucleus accomplishments required from a nurse is empathy, trust and genuineness. As the writer stated she was merely looking at two cardinal elements that contribute to this relationship and feels farther probe may be required into other elements to to the full understand the importance and why such accomplishments are acquired to construct a relationship with a service user and the troubles they may come across in keeping a curative relationship. One thing the writer has achieved is the importance of individual centred attention and how indispensable it is to affect and listen to the service user in all facets of their attention.

RISK ASSESSMENT AND RISK MANAGEMENT - APPLICATION OF MODELS Assignment

RISK ASSESSMENT AND RISK MANAGEMENT - APPLICATION OF MODELS - Assignment Example Further, estimates show that the people living in developing nations, particularly women and children are more affected by indoor air pollution due to their reliance on bio fuels like coal, dung, wood etc (WHO 2006). Thus indoor air quality has been a major area of concern for scientists and policy makers in the recent years due to its implications for health and welfare. Hence, the risk assessment and risk management of indoor air quality deserve special attention. This report discusses the risk assessment and risk management of indoor quality using the NAS model. The NAS model consists of hazard assessment, exposure assessment, risk characterization and risk management (Common Wealth of Australia 2002).All these steps focusing on indoor air quality are discussed in detail in the following sections. A hazard is defined as an agent’s ability to produce any harmful effect on environment or health. It is not same as risk but can be the factor that can be a source of risk or risk factor. Hazard assessment involves two steps .They are hazard identification and dose response assessment (Common Wealth of Australia 2002).In the hazard identification stage of indoor air quality , it is determined whether nor not particular agents of indoor air are harmful to health or environment. The hazard identification for indoor quality is done based on epidemiological, toxicological and occupational or indoor studies. Hazard identification describes qualitatively the capability of agents to produce harmful effects .It is based on indoor observations that may potentially create adverse impacts on health or environment (ECA 2000). After identifying the hazards, the next step is doze response assessment. This describes quantitatively the links between the agents and adverse effects. The dose assessment is done using chamber studies

Design Process Tchnical - Research Paper Example The Ericsson Company pioneered the development of Bluetooth technology in the early 1990s, with the key individuals behind the discovery being Jaap Haartsen and Sven Mattisson (Burbank et al. 2013). Its name originates from the legendary Harald Bluetooth, a king who united two warring tribes, hence the borrowing of the name, owing to the capability of Bluetooth technology to connect two devices for data transfer. The development of Bluetooth technology has come in the form of versions since its inception in the 90s (Franklin & Layton, 2014). The first version of the device (known as Bluetooth 1.) came in the initial stages of homogenization. However, this earlier version had the challenge of compatibility, since it did not work with other devices. Additionally, the device posed challenges of slowed connectivity, hence the need for its improvement (Burbank et al. 2013). The second version of Bluetooth appeared in 2004, and this came with increased speed and higher compatibility rate, as opposed to the earlier version. Later, in 2007, the manufacturers upgraded this Bluetooth version into version 2.1. The device had a higher compatibility rate, reduced power consumption and increased connectivity speed. Research is still in progress to fashion a better version of this technology that will enable even faster connectivity and save on time and power consumption. Bluetooth technology came in handy to eliminate challenges of technology that wire technology posed. Besides, Bluetooth technology has significantly aided in the reduction of cost challenges that cable technology poses, since, before the invention of this technology, one has to utilize cables that were costly, slow and consumed vast amounts of energy (Burbank et al. 2013). Bluetooth technology is an inexpensive mode of communications that allow data transfer over short distance ranges. The ranges of 2.4 to 2.5 GHz may be unregistered across the
